Yale College Republicans Field Paul Chandler for Ward 1 Alderman in New Haven

JacobGeiger_PaulChandler-4-630x795For the first time in twenty years, a Republican is running for Ward 1 Alderman in New Haven. The Yale College Republicans will field Paul Chandler, a junior in Pierson College, for the position.

Paul Chandler is from Westport, Connecticut, and attended Staples High School, the town’s local public school. A high-school Track and Field All-American in the Pole Vault, Paul runs for Yale’s Varsity Track and Field Team. He is a current junior in Pierson College pursuing a B.A. in Economics with an academic focus on Energy and Environmental issues. Paul has experience with New Haven education reform and has spent time observing New Haven classrooms. His passion for education, his love for New Haven, and his knowledge of the city are the driving factors for pursuing an election for the position of Ward 1 Alderman. He understands many of the issues affecting New Haven’s public school system and wants to play a part in supporting and developing local education provision.

This summer, Paul will intern in Oakland at the organization As You Sow and will assist on projects of shareholder activism to divest institutional investors from fossil fuels and reinvest in affordable, clean energy infrastructure. He is excited to begin his campaign for Ward 1 where he will be out around Yale meeting and talking to students about their priorities for New Haven.
